Peter and John had been out doing what they had seen Jesus doing. They were teaching the people about Jesus Christ and how He was raised after 3 days. They were having such an impact on the crowds that thousands of people were being saved. The High Priest, Sadducees, and elders were concerned because of the effectiveness of their teachings, so they confronted them and had them arrested. The next morning, Peter and John stood before the council and answered questions concerning their actions. When asked about the man that had been healed, Peter answered with these words:
10 Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead. 11 For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says, “the stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone” .12 There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. 13 The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.–Acts 4:10-13 (NLT)
Focus on the last part of verse 13: “They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus”. Could anyone be paid a higher compliment than that? Can people tell by our lifestyles that we have been with Jesus? What an honor it would be for someone to make such a comment about us. I can not imagine any reward, award, any office, fame of any sort, or any amount of money that could even come close.
