Walking Out God’s Love Requires Strength and Power!

God is waiting to show you the way.

God is waiting to show you the way.

14 This is the reason I kneel in the presence of the Father 15 from whom all the family in heaven and on earth receives its name. 16 I’m asking God to give you a gift from the wealth of his glory. I pray that he would give you inner strength and power through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will live in you through faith. I also pray that love may be the ground into which you sink your roots and on which you have your foundation. 18 This way, with all of God’s people you will be able to understand how wide, long, high, and deep his love is. 19 You will know Christ’s love, which goes far beyond any knowledge. I am praying this so that you may be completely filled with God. 20 Glory belongs to God, whose power is at work in us. By this power he can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. 21 Glory belongs to God in the church and in Christ Jesus for all time and eternity! Amen.–Ephesians 3:14-21 (NLT)
Yesterday, we read about witnessing by allowing God’s love to shine through our lifestyle. Sometimes we feel like we just don’t have the power and the strength to do that consistently. And in the flesh, we don’t. God will never guide where He will not provide. When God asks us to do something for the Kingdom, He gives us everything we need to accomplish the task. Remember, the battle is not ours, it is the Lord’s. He will gain the victory and the glory, He is just allowing us to participate because of His great love for us. Our part is the same as the singers that Jehoshaphat appointed to go before the people into battle. We are to praise Him as He fights the battle! “Give thanks to the Lord; His faithful love endures forever!”–2 Chronicles 20:21b (NLT)

Living the Love of Jesus

God is waiting to show you the way.

God is waiting to show you the way.

28 One of the experts in Moses’ Teachings went to Jesus during the argument with the Sadducees. He saw how well Jesus answered them, so he asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of them all?” 29 Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Listen, Israel, the Lord our God is the only Lord. 30 So love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ 31 The second most important commandment is this: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”–Mark 12:28-31 (NLT)
We have been discussing witnessing to others by our lifestyle. The best way to do this is to live out these two commandments. To do that, we must allow God’s Spirit to abide in us abundantly. Then we will be filled with the love of God. This love will overflow into our daily life patterns and people will know that there is something different about us. They will watch us carefully and if our life is consistent with God’s word soon or later they will ask us where we get our joy. This will give us an opportunity to witness using words.

Peace in Every Situation

God is waiting to show you the way.

God is waiting to show you the way.

4 Always be joyful in the Lord! I’ll say it again: Be joyful! 5 Let everyone know how considerate you are. The Lord is near. 6 Never worry about anything. But in every situation let God know what you need in prayers and requests while giving thanks. 7 Then God’s peace, which goes beyond anything we can imagine, will guard your thoughts and emotions through Christ Jesus.–Philippians 4:4-7 (NLT)
When we follow Paul’s advice, we find that we have a whole new outlook on life. We also find that the joy of the Lord is contagious and those around us will soon be rejoicing with us. Then God’s peace will guard our thoughts and our emotions. This peace is not an absence of offenses and bad situations, it is a peace in those situations. We live in a world of wars, violence and chaos, but we, as Christians, can experience an inner peace in the midst of the storm. As someone once said, “When we are in a storm, sometimes God calms the storm and sometimes He calms us.” Either way, we can have that peace that the world knows nothing about. So rejoice and give thanks, sing spiritual songs, psalms and hymns. Thanksgiving and praises are the life jackets in the sea of life.
27 “I’m leaving you peace. I’m giving you my peace. I don’t give you the kind of peace that the world gives. So don’t be troubled or cowardly.–John 14:27 (NLT)

Paul’s Instructions to Timothy

God is waiting to show you the way.

God is waiting to show you the way.

1.Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus.2 You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others. 3 Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them.5 And athletes cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules. 6 And hardworking farmers should be the first to enjoy the fruit of their labor. 7 Think about what I am saying. The Lord will help you understand all these things.–2 Timothy 2:1-7 (NLT)
Paul’s instructions to Timothy are an expansion of the instructions that Jesus gave us in the great Commission. Jesus said to “go and make disciples of every nation”. Making disciples is more than salvation. It includes mentoring new converts. This takes time and patience. Paul’s instructions are applicable to us today. It isn’t just the pastor’s job to mentor new converts, it takes the whole body of Christ, the Church. It is the pastors’ job to equip each of us to do that. Our doing the one-on-one mentoring is one way to become a good steward of our time.

Continue Rejoicing and Sharing Your Joy!

God is waiting to show you the way.

God is waiting to show you the way.

14 Do everything without complaining and arguing, 15 so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. 16 Hold firmly to the word of life; then, on the day of Christ’s return, I will be proud that I did not run the race in vain and that my work was not useless. 17 But I will rejoice even if I lose my life, pouring it out like a liquid offering to God, just like your faithful service is an offering to God. And I want all of you to share that joy. 18 Yes, you should rejoice, and I will share your joy.-Philippians 2:14-18 (NLT)
The children of Israel were always murmuring (complaining) during their time in the desert. We are tired of manna, we want some meat, we are tired of quail, take us back to Egypt. Do we ever find ourselves like that? Focusing on all the things we don’t have and mumbling unspeakable thoughts inaudibly? Are we guilty of being jealous or covetous? Our words say we serve an all powerful God who can provide our every need. We praise Him as Jehovah-Jireh, our provider. But our actions say we don’t really believe that. Be faithful in word and deed, so that your joy will be full and overflowing. So much so, that you can share it with all those that God puts in your path each day. Practice praising and rejoicing until they become a natural outflow of gratitude for all that God has done for us. A joyful expression is a product of faithful service to God.

Bond Servants of Jesus Christ

God is waiting to show you the way.

God is waiting to show you the way.

16 O Lord, I am your servant;
yes, I am your servant, born into your household;
you have freed me from my chains.
17 I will offer you a sacrifice of thanksgiving
and call on the name of the Lord.
18 I will fulfill my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people.–Psalm 116:16-18 (NLT)
1 This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the mysteries God has revealed. 2 Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.–1 Cor. 4:1,2 (NIV)

The theme of being a servant or bond slave to Jesus is emphasized in both the Old and the New Testament. We are born into Christ and are now members of His body. We should always be offering sacrifices of thanksgiving and praise. Our present conditions should not determine our level of joy and praise. Part of the mystery of Christianity is being faithful in thanksgiving and praise regardless of our situation. To do less would be a sign of unfaithfulness. Be faithful, praise God and sing with joy in every situation knowing that we will be delivered and God will get the glory.

We Possess Resurrection Power

God is waiting to show you the way.

God is waiting to show you the way.

19 I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power 20 that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. 21 Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come. 22 God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. 23 And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.–Ephesians 1:19-23 (NLT)
As God continues to reveal His plan on His own timetable, we see the part that Jesus has played and is playing still. It was always the plan the Jesus would be the Lord of Lords with power and authority over everyone and everything. God has done this for the benefit of the Church. The Church is to carry on God’s work from the time of the Ascension until Jesus returns. The Church is the body of Christ. Christ is the Head of the Church and without Him, the Church has no power or authority. His shed blood is the lifeblood of His Church and His Holy Spirit is the one that leads us into all truth. We are nothing without Him, but because He abides in us, we have access to the same power that raised Jesus from the tomb. To God be the glory, power, and honor for now and forevermore!!
