Isaiah 53:4-6 (NLT) 4 Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down.
And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins!
5 But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins.
He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.
6 All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own.
Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all
Jesus went to the cross to fulfill prophecy and shed His blood to redeem us from our sins. What great love was shown by the Father to allow His Son to die on the Cross. What great love was shown by the Son to be obedient to the Father even unto the Cross. God was not punishing Jesus for anything that Jesus had done, Jesus lived a sinless life. He chose to lay down His life for us. He was beaten, mocked, pierced, scourged, and hung for our sins. Not only for our salvation but for our healing as well. We cannot work to earn any of this. Every good thing is a free gift from God. Our good works are to lay up
rewards in heaven. Do not confuse the issue. There is only one way to heaven and that is through the acceptance of Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. Any other method presented by anyone is a lie and a deception. But what about works? Is there no need for works? Yes and yes, again. But the works that we do have nothing to do with salvation. They are an example to the world that we love Jesus and are being obedient to Him. We will be rewarded for those works in eternity, not here on earth.
