The Spirit Without Limit

God is waiting to show you the way.

God is waiting to show you the way.

John 5:31-38 (NLT) 31 “He has come from above and is greater than anyone else. We are of the earth, and we speak of earthly things, but he has come from heaven and is greater than anyone else.[i] 32 He testifies about what he has seen and heard, but how few believe what he tells them! 33 Anyone who accepts his testimony can affirm that God is true. 34 For he is sent by God. He speaks God’s words, for God gives him the Spirit without limit. 35 The Father loves his Son and has put everything into his hands. 36 And anyone who believes in God’s Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn’t obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remains under God’s angry judgment.”
Often people ask why we can’t do the miracles Jesus did when He walked on the earth. Jesus was given the Spirit without limit. We have access to that same Spirit but because of our unbelief and disobedience in certain areas, we limit what God can do through us. Much like the Israelites limited God while in the desert. You can read about that in Psalm 78:40-42. It is up to us to dig deeper into the Word and learn to trust God with our whole heart. We are striving to get to the point that Jesus was at when He said that He did what He saw the Father do and He said what the Father said.

Jumping With Joy!!

God is waiting to show you the way.

God is waiting to show you the way.

John 15:9-14 (NLT) 9 “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. 10 When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. 11 I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! 12 This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. 13 There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command.
Every day we read about violence and all kinds of bad news. It almost seems if no one in the world has any happiness or joy. But, as Christians, we should be filled with the joy of the Lord. If we are still having days when we are feeling down and out, remember that God’s salvation does not depend on our feelings. Ask God to restore the joy of your salvation to you.
In 2 Peter 1:3 we read this: By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.
If we believe what the Bible tells us, we should be so excited that we are always jumping with joy!

Total Access

God is waiting to show you the way.

God is waiting to show you the way.

Matthew 27: 50-52 (NLT) 50 Then Jesus shouted out again, and he released his spirit. 51 At that moment the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, rocks split apart, 52 and tombs opened. The bodies of many godly men and women who had died were raised from the dead.
I fail to understand why people will pay hundreds, even thousands of dollars for tickets to concerts and sports events. I also fail to understand why people will roll out the big bills to attend a dinner with some celebrity. I suppose if you have so much money, you just don’t know where to spend it, those things are all right. But, my question is this: What good did it do you and how long did it last?
Here in this passage, Jesus has just given us total access to the King of Kings. Totally free, no charge and those same people who shell out thousands of dollars to sit with some human who is going to fade away like green grass in the noonday sun won’t accept a free gift. A free gift that sets them free from their bondage to money and power and gives them an eternity with the Creator of the Universe. Free salvation, free eternal life, how can you say no?

Show God’s Love and Shine God’s Light

God is waiting to show you the way.

God is waiting to show you the way.

1 John 2:3-8 (NLT) 3 And we can be sure that we know him if we obey his commandments. 4 If someone claims, “I know God,” but doesn’t obey God’s commandments, that person is a liar and is not living in the truth. 5 But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him. 6 Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did. 7 Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment for you; rather it is an old one you have had from the very beginning. This old commandment—to love one another—is the same message you heard before. 8 Yet it is also new. Jesus lived the truth of this commandment, and you also are living it. For the darkness is disappearing, and the true light is already shining.
Since God loved us so much that He gave Himself on the cross for our redemption, we should live our lives for His glory. Living that lifestyle and showing love for each other is how the world can see that we belong to Jesus Christ. If His word abides in us and we abide in Him, that relationship will be reflected in how we respond to situations in our daily lives. Bitter and sweet water can not come from the same stream. A lifestyle that reflects glory to God will be one that is characterized by the fruits of God’s Spirit. Grace, kindness, love, patience, joy, gentleness should be the fruit that we produce. Before we react to a stressful situation, we need to whisper a silent prayer. Counting to ten might keep you from saying something hurtful, but prayer will give you the words that are life-giving and beneficial to you and the other people involved in the situation. Don’ be deceived into thinking that we should just go with the flow. God has put you where you are to make a difference in the lives of the people around you. Sometimes that requires us to step out of our comfort zone and show love to people who are seemingly unloveable. We are the light that God has placed in this world to dispel the darkness. God is just as concerned about what you say to those in the workplace as He is about your Pastor’s sermon on Sunday morning. There are words of life that need to be spoken, but they must be spoken in love.

Perpetual Prayer?? Really??

God is waiting to show you the way.

God is waiting to show you the way.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing.
Is God serious? Does He really want us to pray without ceasing? Yes, He does. Is that even possible? Well, if He wants us to do it, then it must be. How do we do that?
Maybe, part of the problem is that we don’t understand what prayer really is. Let me start, by re-emphasizing that prayer is not just giving God a “to do” list and then going about our daily chores. If that is all there is to prayer, then we certainly would not be able to “pray without ceasing”. There are several ways to increase your prayer time until you can pray without ceasing.
One is a simple acronym: ACTS
Adoration–God doesn’t need us to “butter Him up”, in fact, He really doesn’t need anything from us. He does, however WANT our praise and our adoration. His whole purpose in creating the human race was for His fellowship and His glory. He doesn’t “need” it, but He has a strong desire for us to adore Him because of Who He is and what He has done and is doing for us. Remember your first love? How much time did you spending thinking about all the wonderful attributes of that person? You talked about them until everyone around you was sick of hearing how wonderful he/she was. How about spending a few hours telling Jesus how wonderful He is. You can do this with words alone or add a lot of music and songs. As we are told in Psalm 100:4 that praise is how we get into God’s presence. We are also told that God inhabits the praises of His people. So, practice being a walking, talking, singing house of praise.
Confession— Yes, our sins are forgiven. But sins that are not confessed can lead to guilt and shame and eventually build a gap between You and God. They can be used by satan to hammer you with guilt and make you ineffective in joining in with God in His work. The confession isn’t for God’s benefit, it is for our benefit, so that we are reminded that we are forgiven and we can lift up Holy hands to the Lord. (I would hope this would be the shortest part of your prayer, but take all the time you need).
Thanksgiving–This is where You can really spend some time. Thanksgiving may be celebrated one day a year, but it needs to become our lifestyle. Just as you love to hear your children express thanks for the things you do for them, God loves to hear His children do the same.
He loves to hear it so much that He told us in Ephesians 5:20 “to give thanks always for all things to God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” and again in Philippians 4:6 “in everything with prayer and supplication with thanksgiving…”. The word thanks appears over and over in all of Paul’s writings. God loves to give us gifts, but He also loves to hear our “Thank You, Father”.
If we want to get into God’s presence (His courts) then we have to enter through His gates and in Psalm 100:4, we are told to “enter His gates with thanksgiving in our hearts.”
Supplication–This is the part that we are best at since we practice it the most. Easy way to remember this one is to remember this: When trouble or trials come, run to the throne, not to the phone. God already knows our needs, but He still wants us to ask.
If we realize that what God is really saying is that He wants to be in constant communion with us, then, we realize that with practice, the attitude of prayer can become our lifestyle.

Overcoming Trials Produces Hope

God is waiting to show you the way.

God is waiting to show you the way.

Romans 5:1-5 (NLT) 1. Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. 2 Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory. 3 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. 4 And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. 5 And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
God has not only given us His Holy Son to die on a cross to redeem us from sin, He has also given us His Holy Spirit to indwell us. When God has given us His absolute best, why would He withhold any good thing from us? God knows where we are in our walk with Him. The trials and problems we face are to let us know our progress. God cannot be surprised, He knows us better than we know ourselves. He isn’t worried about tomorrow because for Him, there are no tomorrows, there is only now. So, we should follow His example and stay focused on “now”. We can’t see the “big picture” so we can’t know what is best for us. Everything in creation was created by the Power of His Word and it is held in place by that same power. Everything He allows in our lives is for our benefit. If we truly believe that, then we can truly trust Him to bring us safely home.

Walk in Wisdom

God is waiting to show you the way.

God is waiting to show you the way.

1 Corinthians 3:18-23 (NLT) 18 Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world’s standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say, “He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness.” 20 And again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise; he knows they are worthless.” 21 So don’t boast about following a particular human leader. For everything belongs to you— 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Peter, or the world, or life and death, or the present and the future. Everything belongs to you, 23 and you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God.
It is good to have knowledge, but just having knowledge is not being wise. Wisdom is the application of that knowledge to life situations. As we are told in Proverbs “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”. To discover Who God is and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior is the first step. In the book of James, we are told to ask God for wisdom and he will give it to us abundantly. Reading commentaries and listening to sermons can add to our knowledge, but for wisdom, we need to go straight to the source. No matter how wise someone thinks they are and no matter how much we respect them and their ministry, we need to always check everything we hear to see if it aligns with the Holy Scriptures. There is a lot of misinformation being taught as Scriptural. Don’t be deceived, God is waiting to give you more wisdom. Don’t be caught up with a person’s charisma or their passion. There is only one perfect person and that is Jesus Christ. Humans make errors and it is up to each of us to discern the truth and walk in it.

Temporary or Eternal??

God is waiting to show you the way.

God is waiting to show you the way.

2 Corinthians 4: 14-18 (NLT) 14 We know that God, who raised the Lord Jesus, will also raise us with Jesus and present us to himself together with you. 15 All of this is for your benefit. And as God’s grace reaches more and more people, there will be great thanksgiving, and God will receive more and more glory. 16 That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. 17 For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! 18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.
Can you imagine the power that was manifested when Jesus was resurrected from the grave? There must have been tremendous spiritual warfare occurring around that location and that time in history. Don’t you think satan realized his big mistake and knew that if Jesus arose from the dead and left that tomb, not only this battle, but the war, was lost. We have that power to use for God’s glory today. Our mortal bodies are rotting away, but our Spirits should be getting stronger each day as we allow God to renew them. Paul says the problems we have today are trivial and temporary compared to the glory they will produce. When we endure small problems here, they produce a greater glory that will last an eternity. So, each day we should be focusing on Jesus and looking forward to the things that we cannot see now, but God says when they are manifested in the future, they will last forever. So, when troubles seem many and satan is trying to defeat you at every turn, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face and the things of this world will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.”

Talk With God and Wait

God is waiting to show you the way.

God is waiting to show you the way.

Psalm 27:7,8, 14 (NLT) 7 Hear me as I pray, O Lord. Be merciful and answer me!
8 My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.”
And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.”

14 Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous.
Yes, wait patiently for the Lord

As Christians, we are bond servants of the Lord Jesus Christ. We serve Him because we love Him. Our prayers should not be a “to do” list for God. Good morning, God, here is what I need for You to do for me today. Got it? Good, I will talk to You again soon, maybe tomorrow. That is not prayer, my friend, that is what you might say to your employees, but not to God. Is He interested in your tiniest need? Yes, He is, but He is also the King of Kings. He deserves our respect. As this verse from Psalms says: “Come and talk with me”, not to me. After you have talked, be silent and let God speak to you. He already knows your needs and He already knows His answer. He doesn’t need to think about it overnight. Just rest in His arms for a few minutes and God’s Holy Spirit will not only give you the answer but will help you understand the answer.

Are You Walking or Just Talking?

God is waiting to show you the way.

God is waiting to show you the way.

Philippians 2:1-5 (NLT) Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.
If we have the same mindset as Christ Jesus, we will always show the love that we have for others. We must always put Jesus first, then others next. The only way the world will know that we love Jesus is if we show that love to them and to each other. Jesus loved us to the point of laying down His life for us, even while we were still sinners. How much of your life are you willing to lay down to witness to your neighbors? Laying down our lives for others is about more than just taking time to talk to them, it is also about living a Holy life before them. We have the power to speak words of life to those that Jesus puts in our paths, but they won’t listen to us, if our walk doesn’t reflect our talk.
